08/12/2018 Day 5 Newton, Massachusetts to Worcester, Massachusetts. Trip distance 43.9 miles. Total miles 221.2

Today we got on the road fairly early because we knew we had hills and possible rain. It did start to rain shortly after we hit the road and within a short distance of our start point we came across several of the infamous wet wooden bridges that Tina and I wiped out on. Let me rephrase, Tina wiped out and I took a fall, there is a difference. So, being the safety conscious people we are we decided to walk the bikes across the bridges. With the rain, the bridges, stopping for various reasons and getting a little confused of our route we had only travelled about 3 miles in an hour. So, we decided it was a good time for a breakfast break and stopped at a restaurant to eat. At the restaurant I inspected my brakes because they were not working well at all and discovered my front pads were almost gone on the front side of the pad. I started googling bike shops to see if there was anything around and of course there wasn’t so after breakfast I took them off and turned them around and it did the trick. They still need to be replaced so will look for a bike shop tomorrow. Other than that it was a pretty uneventful day except for the terrible traffic on roads with no bike lanes and a lot of ups and downs on some not so fun hills. Upon arriving in Worcester we were tired and hungry but there were no restaurants in site so we spotted a bar and decided to have a drink before we made our way to our AIRBNB for the night. The bar was a little honky tonk kind of place with about 8 patrons that all knew each other. They started asking us all sorts of questions about our trip and one couple asked where we were staying for the night. When we told them the location they all got kind of a funny look and one couple started whispering to each other and from what we gathered they were discussing the possibility of us being tortured and murdered and probably would feel guilty if they read about us in the paper. So they got their courage up to tell us the neighborhood was bad, bad, bad and we should stay away. Needless to say we forfeited our 1 nights rent and are at the local Holiday Inn! Tomorrow we head to Providence, RI.
